Ingredients
- ½ cup warm water
- 1 packet (about 1 oz) dry onion soup mix
- 2 eggs
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 1½ cups bread crumbs, plain or Italian
- 2 lb ground turkey (90–93% lean)
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce, optional
Steps
- Dissolve the soup mix. Heat the oven to 350°F. Stir the onion soup mix into the warm water until fully dissolved.
- Add the eggs and ketchup. Add the eggs and ketchup to the soup mixture and stir until blended.
- Add the crumbs. Stir in the bread crumbs until evenly mixed.
- Add the meat. Add the turkey one pound at a time, mixing well after each addition so it is fully incorporated with everything else.
- Bake. Pack the mixture into a loaf pan. If using the tomato sauce, pour it over the top. Bake 1½ hours, until cooked through.
Notes
- Tomato sauce topping: pouring the can of tomato sauce over the loaf before baking adds moisture and flavor.
- Beef version: the same recipe works with 2 lb lean ground beef.
